Introduction

English Festival 2008 is coming! Like what we did in the previous years, we are having a wide range of activities that would bring us a lot of fun. To create an English language rich environment, our school would be nicely decorated with banners, posters and English reading materials. Why don't you join us by submitting your “masterpieces” to your English teachers?

This year, the English Festival is all about imagination and creativity. Our slogan is “Open Your Mind, Think Wide”. The ideas are borrowed from a Walt Disney movie “Bridge to Teribithia”. There is a quote from the movie, “you have to keep your mind wide open”. It suggests that we have to think from different angles in dynamic ways.

About Bridge to Terabithia

Bridge to Teribithia is written by Katherine Paterson. It is a Newbery Medal-winning story of two teenagers, Jess Aarons and Leslie Burke, who make up an adventure in their own Kingdom of imagination – Terabithia. Jess and Leslie are two close friends. Together, they create the imaginary land of Terabithia . There they rule as king and queen, until a terrible tragedy occurs that helps Jess understands just how much he has learnt from Leslie. From then onwards, Jess has to learn to face the death of a close friend and discovers that he could actually maintain better relationship with his family if he thinks from a different angle.

Senior Form Writing Contest

● Topic of Writing :

Imagine that you are a good friend of Jess and know that he does not have good relationship with his family. What suggestions would you give him? Write a letter of about 250 words to Jess and give him some advices on what could be done to improve his relationship with his parents and sisters?

● You have to:

• Draw a mind-map as the outline of your letter (use pictures / colours / symbols / keywords)

• (This could help you bloom ideas and organize them clearly)

• Write the letter on single-lined paper in about 250 words

• Both the mind-map and letter have to be submitted to your teacher
