A trip report after the English Camp 2010

by Miss Siu Wai Han, Fiona

The English Camp was held in Dongguan this year again from 28th December to 30th December. The experience is really invaluable.

We were provided a 3-hour English lesson and an excursion each day.

The 3-day English program is very useful.

1st day

Practice interview questions.
2nd day

:Interview English-speaking natives at the airport.

Learn technical English through a 3D robot making course.

3rd day Visit to kindergarten and help kids learning English with fun.

Many interesting visits were made during this trip.

  1. Visit Guangzhou Airport
  2. Visit Toy Factory - Jetta Company
  3. Visit a kindergarten
  4. Visit a Hakka Museum and its Theme Park

Responses from the students were very positive.
When students arrived at the Guangzhou Baiyun Internation Airport, they were too shy to talk with the foreigners but they were willing to move one step forward after a few lousy tries. At the end, many of them were very eager to be the first one to do the interviews. They jumped out of the crowd and stood confidently in front of the visitors and talked for a quite a while. This eagerness to learn and speak English was shown everywhere.

One student from Form 2 said to me with joy, ‘Miss Siu, please let me join this kind of course activity whenever there is one. I found it very helpful’. Another student from Form 3 said, ‘I have never been spoken so much English in one day, it is even more than Mandarin Chinese.’

The tutor of this English Camp is Mark O’neill. He is a retired English newspaper editor. He loves our students very much. He loves the students in China, too. He even donated all his tutoring salary of this trip to the China students and the kindergarten kids. Here, I would like to pay tribute to his unselfishness and his invaluable contribution to education generally.
